Food Regulatory Workshop – Halifax, NS: January 17, 2017

Regulatory modernization activities will impact how foods are approved, deemed safe, labelled, and marketed to consumers.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), Health Canada and the NS Department of Agriculture are partnering to deliver a workshop to update the food industry on regulatory issues.

The workshop is intended for all producers, food manufacturers, importers, retailers and others involved in marketing food products.

The workshop will provide information on: regulatory modernization activities, including the Safe Food for Canadians Act, Healthy Eating Strategy, Mandatory Labelling, and CFIA’s Electronic Service Delivery Platform. There is no cost to attend. Deadline for registration is January 6th, 2017.

Safe Food for Canadians Act: An update on the status of the new food safety and regulatory compliance requirements. Web link: please click here!

My CFIA and the Electronic Service Delivery Platform (ESDP): This platform will allow industry to query and apply for export certificates online and to allow the CFIA to exchange certificates and related documents securely with importing countries. This will facilitate the necessary approval for Canadian commodities to enter foreign countries. Web link: please click here!

Health Canada’s Healthy Eating Strategy: The Healthy Eating Strategy aims to help Canadians make better food choices by improving labels, eliminating trans-fat, reducing sodium and restricting marketing to children. Web link: please click here!

Modernizing Food Labelling: CFIA and Health Canada initiatives will impact requirements for food labelling.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Regulatory Readiness Decision Model: This tool provides a logical step-by-step approach to promote compliance with food regulatory requirements.

  • Hilton Garden Inn; 200 Pratt & Whitney Drive; Enfield, NS (near Halifax Airport) 
  • A light lunch and nutrition break will be provided. There is lots of free parking available and there is no cost to attend.
