Emergence client, New Brunswick-based SomaDetect, has been announced as a finalist in the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation‘s Breakthru competition.
SomaDetect is an agro-tech startup working on problems of animal wellness in the dairy industry.
SomaDetect’s mission is to help dairy farmers to get the highest quality milk possible by providing information of herd health and milk quality.
NBIF is a private, not-for-profit corporation that invests in startup companies and R&D. Breakthru is the agency’s flagship competition, held every second year. It aims to bring entrepreneurs into the startup community and usher them through the early stages of starting a business.
To reach the finals, the entrants had to submit a full business plan to the committee. This year, 53 companies submitted plans, and 12 then moved on to the semi-finals. Half the teams have female founders, and there is a strong emphasis on companies developing IT products for life sciences.
Co-sponsored by Emergence legal partner, Cox & Palmer, the Breakthru start-up competition provides participants with an opportunity to access start-up capital, mentoring, and support.
The Awards Dinner will be held on March 23rd, 2017 at the Fredericton Convention Center in Fredericton, NB.
