AchieveMR latest to join Emergence Incubator

November 28, 2023

AchieveMR is the latest company to join Emergence, Atlantic Canada’s bioscience business incubator which is dedicated to assisting start-ups and growth-stage companies in the commercialization of bioscience-based technologies and services. AchieveMR is a virtual mixed reality platform for advanced surgical training. Their solution offers a highly efficient and effective pathway for surgeons to learn and master surgical techniques, remotely but with expert guidance.

“We are pleased to have AchieveMR join Emergence,” said Jason Cleaversmith, Director of Incubation, PEI BioAlliance. “We look forward to working with them on their prototyping and commercialization strategy, to bring their innovative solution to market.”

Based on Halifax, Nova Scotia, AchieveMR was founded by Dr. Ivan Wong and Sarah Remedios. Dr. Wong is a highly accomplished medical professional with a background in academia, research and clinical practice in the field of orthopedics. Remedios is an expert in the field of medical and surgical education technology, with a Masters in Kinesiology and a specialization in biomechanics.

AchieveMR aims to provide a more efficient and virtually-based solution to education methods for surgeons who traditionally learn new surgical skills through attendance at training courses, or 1:1 interaction with an expert surgeon, both of which can have significant costs and limitations.

“We are very excited to join Emergence Incubator to help grow our business and expand our surgical training platform. This is a pivotal chapter for AchieveMR to enhance the future of surgical training.”

Emergence provides companies with business incubation services including the Critical Path program, one-on-one and team mentorship, business strategy and advisory services, as well as access to the Emergence Performance Network. Emergence Advisor Chris Cowper-Smith is located in Nova Scotia and specializes in medical devices, supporting companies such as AchieveMR with R&D, commercialization, manufacturing, and sales. Emergence also works closely with Life Sciences Nova Scotia to identify high impact companies that are a good fit with the Emergence Incubator.
