PragmaClin Research Inc is the latest company to join Emergence, Atlantic Canada’s bioscience business incubator which is dedicated to assisting start-ups and growth-stage companies in the commercialization of bioscience-based technologies and services. PragmaClin supports clinicians and patients with their solution “PRIMS” which utilizes software and hardware including self-surveys, depth cameras and machine learning for precise, objective evaluation of motor and non-motor symptoms, offering a groundbreaking solution for monitoring disease progression.
“We are pleased to have PragmaClin join Emergence,” said Jason Cleaversmith, Director of Incubation, PEI BioAlliance. “We look forward to helping their team connect with key members of the healthcare and bioscience sectors to improve patient outcomes.”
Founded by Bronwyn Bridges and Gord Genge, PragmaClin is developing digital approaches to managing Parkinson’s Disease. Gord was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2019 and was shocked by the long wait time for assessment and the lack of support for people living with Parkinson’s. Bronwyn is a Summerside, PEI native, who is now a Ph.D. student at Memorial University of Newfoundland. While conducting her research on Parkinson’s, she met Gord and together they came up with an exciting new solution. Shortly after, PragmaClin was incorporated, and PRIMS was born.
Based in Newfoundland, PragmaClin has raised over $1,500,000 in funding through non-dilutive sources including pitch competitions and grants such as the GSEA (Global Student Entrepreneur Awards), Mel Woodward Cup, Bounce Health Embryo Grants Competition, Ontario Brain Institute, AgeWell Impact Award, the Entrepreneurship World Cup, and more. Their team of students, graduates, and advisors play a vital role in the company’s development and growth. Bronwyn and the PragmaClin team are excited to continue their mission of solving the challenges patients and clinicians experience in the neurology space.
“I am excited to connect with people in the bioscience sector,” says PragmaClin CEO and Co-Founder Bronwyn Bridges. “I like that the Emergence program is like a small community; everyone you’d like to talk to is within arm’s reach. Healthcare can move slowly, so having the opportunity to connect and work with key decision-makers and players is valuable.”
